*From Master of Engineering to a PhD – Thank You God!*

When you study any form of Engineering Degree in the UK – typically as a Female you might end up being in a Male dominated University Program. In my case, there was probably about 20-30 females in a few hundred students studying “Electronic & Electrical Engineering” degrees when I was an Undergraduate. By my final year though, my Masters of Engineering and 5th year, there was a 50/50 split – but it filtered down to only two females and two men remaining.
All of us graduated with our M.Engs together that year, and the other three went on to do PhDs straight away. I decided to be the one going into industry right away instead.
In April though, I have officially joined their level in Education achievement, and make it 100% of that M.Eng Graduation class achieving PhDs.
My PhD is in “Biblical Studies”, so not quite all in the same field of study – but something I never thought I would be able to achieve, and completely Thankful to God for the opportunity and time to study this year.
This is something I never dreamed I would achieve, and with being a Single Mum to two boys – I know without doubt that being able to study (usually when they were asleep at night time or first thing early in the morning online), take Assessments, write a PhD level Thesis and pass is all thanks to God. Don’t worry though – I will be back to content creation soon on Money, Investing and Business as this all helps I have no doubt.
🎉So as of April 2025, I’m officially Jennifer A.M. Thomson M.Eng PhD 🎉
So…why I am sharing this? Well, for anyone reading this, please believe you should never let your circumstances stop you for going for any goal or vision that you believe is right for you. We are usually able to achieve far more than we realise, even when the time doesn’t seem to make sense.
Go for that goal if God places it on your heart as the right next step for you, and then share your story to encourage someone else on their journey too. Take the steps you can and allow God to do what He does best – bless you with results.
